HOW THE FIRE BARRIER WORKS

Intumescent coatings work by expanding as a result of exposure to a heat source, this expansion results in an increase in volume and decrease in density, which provides a thermal insulating protective barrier to the material it is applied to. Intumescent’s are typically used in passive fire protection and require listing, approval and compliance in their installed configurations in order to comply with the national building codes and laws.

FAQs

An intumescent is a substance that swells as a result of heat exposure, thus increasing in volume and decreasing in density. Intumescents are typically used in passive fire protection and require listing, approval and compliance in their installed configurations in order to comply with the national building codes and laws. – Wikipedia

ICG currently offers two UL/ULC tested and certified Intumescent paints that provide passive fire protection to a range of substrates.
    • Both our Intumescent coatings are Water-based, thin-film, intumescent coatings that use the latest technology to create the world’s leading Fire Barrier Latex.
    • Both are UL/ULC tested and certified. Underwriter Laboratories (UL) is one of the oldest safety certification companies around. They certify products, facilities, processes or systems based on industry-wide standards.
Obtaining UL Certification is important because it demonstrates manufacturers and service providers competency. UL Certification shows that a company meets all local and federal safety and environmental regulations. UL/ULC covers certification for USA and Canada.
